Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) - Assessment and Intervention

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify populations at risk for traumatic brain injury.
• Describe the types of brain injuries.
• Analyze the physiological effects on the brain resulting from a traumatic brain injury.
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of a traumatic brain injury.
• Conduct clinical assessments to evaluate symptoms and optimize care, thereby improving outcomes.
• Utilize the Glasgow Coma Scale effectively.
• Assess a person's cognitive, physical, and psychosocial abilities to impact participation in meaningful daily activities.
• Implement techniques and interventions aimed at alleviating various physical and emotional symptoms to enhance overall well-being.
• Employ various compensatory strategies to improve daily functioning.
• Conduct screening and comprehensive assessments to identify potential deficits and determine strengths and needs in speech, language, cognitive-communication, swallowing, and audiology.
• Apply restorative and/or compensatory interventions to achieve the highest level of independent functioning, enabling participation in daily activities.
• Utilize appropriate techniques to implement the "return to work/play" strategy.
