Course overview

This course deals with principles of substance abuse prevention in early childhood. This course includes: intervening in early childhood can alter the life course trajectory in a positive direction, increasing protective factors sand reducing risk factors, long term positive effects, effects on a wide array of behaviors, positively affecting children's biological functioning, targeting the proximal environments of the child, affecting a child's behavior through early intervention can elicit positive behaviors in adult caregivers and in other children improving their overall social environment, why early childhood is so important to substance abuse prevention, risk and protective factors, intervening early childhood, and a list of research based early intervention substance abuse programs by age.
