Learn moreCourse overview
Osseointegration surgery is increasing in popularity due to the significant advantages it offers over traditional socket protheses, including improved osseoperception and eradication of traditional socket issues such as pain. Although the number of hospitals performing osseointegration surgery is currently limited, rehabilitation clinicians are seeing more patients in their communities. While some treatment principles are consistent with traditional amputation, clinicians need to be prepared for the nuances that come along with osseointegration including loading protocols and gait training. This program will provide an overview of osseointegration surgery including candidate selection, surgical process and considerations. Current practices for rehabilitation of patients from the acute postoperative phase in the hospital through to outpatient rehabilitation and eventual discharge from therapy will also be discussed through case studies.
