Course overview

An unfortunate consequence of the aging process is that many older adults are vulnerable to incidents of abuse and neglect. Indeed, increased physical and cognitive impairment often results in increased dependence on others which ultimately, creates the very real potential for an abusive situation. Fortunately, incidents of intentional abuse and neglect are rare. Care providers enter their profession with genuine compassion rather than the intent to inflict harm. Nonetheless, incidents of abuse and neglect do occur. The intent of this presentation is to provide training relative to the various types of abuse and neglect, as well as to define the process for mandated abuse reporting. The content of this class is appropriate for all who provide care for at risk older adults.
