In this webinar, Dr. Taylor Miller will provide an overview of the mental health challenges early-career veterinarians are likely to face as they transition from an educational environment into clinical practice, including work-life balance, the ability to feel competent in an environment in which mistakes, though inevitable, are not acceptable, and an expectation that one must "put in their time." Dr. Miller will deconstruct many of the unspoken expectations reinforced by medical culture and how personalities with a dominant care-taking drive may be impacted. She will also address common cognitive distortions that can lead to negative self-talk and challenge self-image and outline a series of protective and preventive strategies beginning veterinarians can employ to improve their mental well-being during their early career.
