Course overview

Years ago, long term care staff other than physicians were not expected to understand psychotropic medication, let alone have a substantive role within the Inter-Disciplinary Treatment Team. Contemporary long term care staff, however, are now required to be clinicians with a basic understanding of psychotropic medications - their uses, their side effects and their contraindications. In this presentation, participants will be provided with an overview of the types, classifications and indications of psychotropic medications as well as potential side effects. This information will help you gain competence and confidence in your role as a member of the IDT within the psychotropic medication discussion. Although the presentation is geared towards Social Services and Activity staff, the review will be beneficial and practical for all care providers
