By 2030, the cost of falls for the elderly population in the United States may cost over 100 billion dollars. By increasing our awareness of the changes in the geriatric population needs, their impairments, chronic conditions, and the types of falls that occur, therapists can assist in providing patient-centered interventions to provide care for their needs to lower fall risk and to improve mobility in their settings. This workshop will not only offer the tools to identify the types of falls and their associated risk factors; it will create the opportunity for therapists to be the front line in their settings to decrease fall risk while providing care to their patients and increasing their confidence and independence while decreasing their risk for falls.
