There are at least 24 recognised dog breeds with brachycephalic conformation. With the rise in popularity of a number of these breeds, veterinary surgeons are seeing these dogs with increasing frequency for routine surgical and medical treatment as well as for signs of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome BOAS. This can place them at higher risk of complications before, during and after general anaesthesia including complete airway obstruction.
