The role Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT) and Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) teams play in responding to disasters is explained. The history of the National Disaster Medicine System (NDMS) is reviewed. Planning for medical services at mass gatherings is examined, illustrated by the Ironman competition. Program incorporates FEMA video, photos, hurricane Katrina and Rita field footage, and EMS support at the SuperBowl.
