Course overview
As an EMS responder, it is important to have a keen awareness of the difficulties faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients in an emergency response situation. The EMS provider is suddenly faced with a medical or traumatic situation that is further complicated by the fact that the patient and responder may not share a primary communication method. This program will help EMS providers understand the circumstances surrounding hearing loss, the challenges Deaf or Hard of Hearing patients face in emergency situations, and provide an EMS responder with a good foundation in developing effective communication tools and providing quality patient care.
