Unfortunately assaults, rape and other violent crimes happen every day and in many different types of environments. Treating these patients will not be an unusual situation for you, but there may be different dangers or scene operations that you will need to take into account as you perform your assessments and treatments. Dr. James J. Augustine reviews the importance of scene safety, and the preservation of evidence. He also emphasis how critical your thorough documentation of the incident is for the hospital and for possible future legal proceedings. Reviewed are assessment and communication techniques with an emphasis on how to provide psychological first aid to patients who have suffered assault or rape. Special transport considerations are also highlighted.
