Course overview

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a primary health condition that interacts with and complicates many other health problems and psychiatric disorders. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved four medications for AUD treatment, making it a viable option in primary care, behavioral healthcare, and other general medical settings. This course will give you valuable information about these medications, as well as several medications that, although they do not have FDA approval for this indication, have shown some utility in treating AUD. This course will examine common medications for AUD, their benefits, and potential side effects. It will discuss strategies to identify AUD better. It will also explore when medication treatment for alcohol use disorder is appropriate or not.
