Course overview

Gut-Brain Interaction: A Biopsychosocial and Dietary Approach to Gut and Brain Disorders is a 6-hour live webinar designed for Florida licensed massage therapists. This course explores the bidirectional communication pathways between the gut and the brain, known collectively as the gut-brain axis. It examines how gastrointestinal conditions, once thought to be solely psychosomatic, are now recognized as disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBIs) with complex biological, psychological, and social factors. Participants will learn how early life trauma, microbiota imbalances, food reactions, lifestyle habits, medications, and even COVID may impact gut-brain functioning. The course also reviews current evidence-based interventions including brain-gut behavior therapies, microbiota-based therapies, dietary strategies, physical activity, sleep, and environmental modifications. This knowledge enhances the massage therapist's ability to support clients dealing with stress, chronic illness, and systemic inflammation, aligning with holistic wellness principles under Chapter 480 Florida Statutes.
