Peer review includes the use of evidence-based practice and professional standards to evaluate the nursing practice of a peer. Peer review is essential for being a part of a profession, but few healthcare organizations have meaningful nursing peer review. Nursing has lagged behind other professional groups, especially physicians, in creating a peer-review agenda. Authentic nursing peer review require the use of evidence-based standards by all nurses, regardless of role or practice setting.
