Course overview
This course teaches a sequence of aquatic massage flow. Students learn techniques for working on massage clients in the water and how to support clients as they are floated and stretched. Clients are treated with a series of gentle oscillations, rotations, and stretches to increase mobility and flexibility. We will learn techniques including joint mobilization techniques, passive stretching techniques, oscillation, and client positioning techniques. Students will learn proper techniques to ease strain on their bodies during work. Class will be a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on learning. Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate proficiency in delivering aquatic massage, including joint mobilization techniques, passive stretching techniques, oscillation, compression, and client positioning. Students will demonstrate proper use of floatation devices for the client for client support and comfort. Students will demonstrate proper ergonomics to reduce physical strain and prevent injury to their bodies while performing aquatic massage Students will be able to list and explain contraindications to aquatic massage, including conditions that may require modification or avoidance of certain aquatic techniques to ensure client safety and well-being. Students will apply aquatic massage techniques to effectively address and treat common areas of tension and discomfort, including shoulders, back, hips, neck, ankles, wrists, hands, and feet, adapting approaches as needed to individual client needs. Students will be able to list the benefits of aquatic massage verses regular massage and describe how the body responds differently when aquatic massage is applied.
