Course overview
This practical focuses on the management of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). It covers various treatment modalities for patients presenting with TMD, including advice and education, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy (e.g. soft tissue massage, joint mobilisations) and self management strategies. From a conceptual perspective, this practical discusses the logistics of treating TMDs and considering the involvement of other relevant areas of the body such as the cervical spine, thoracic spine, shoulder girdle and teeth. From a skills perspective, this practical focuses heavily on treatment modalities and technical skills relating to the jaw. Knowledge and skills gained from this practical will help develop clinicians' clinical reasoning and manual therapy skills to improve care of those presenting with TMDs.
