Course overview

This course provides a comprehensive overview of adoption, including infant, special needs, and older child adoption. An historical overview of adoption and services provided to expectant, birth, and adoptive parents are reviewed. The importance of positive adoption terms, the three types of adoption, agency vs. attorney adoption, and reasons birth parents choose to make an adoption plan are examined. Adoption in a hospital setting, federal laws governing adoption, the three types of adoption plans, and birth father rights are discussed.
