Clinicians who work with individuals living with spinal cord injuries are often tasked with the challenge of teaching a whole new way of navigating through the home and community using a wheelchair. This course will detail techniques and progressions to teach manual wheelchair users how to properly propel a chair, hold a wheelie, move in a wheelie, navigate over thresholds and obstacles, ascend/descend ADA ramps and safely bump up and down standard curbs with assistance. Through clinical examples, videos, and templates of progressions, participants will gain essential knowledge to be able to effectively teach their clients who use a manual wheelchair how to safely navigate through many of the typical community obstacles. With the proper education and training you can greatly improve the quality of life, safety, and independence for you clients who use a manual wheelchair.
