Course overview

Dental Professionals have a unique opportunity to share life-saving information with their patients that are addicted to nicotine products. Although smoking rates have declined there are still over 36 million adults that smoke in the U.S.A. The products are rapidly evolving and causing dental and medical disease, disability, and death to their users. This course will give the dental team the tools needed to be able to start their patient's journey of becoming free of smoking, vaping, and dipping. The newest novel nicotine delivery systems will be discussed.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:


  1. Discuss with patients the different forms of nicotine delivery systems.
  2. Have a working knowledge of the types and dosing of FDA approved medications and OTC products to treat nicotine addiction.
  3. Be introduced to a systematic approach to counseling their patient chairside.
  4. Be introduced to the concepts involved with Motivational Interviewing as an approach to behavioral change.
