Course overview

All mental health disciplines have a foundation of ethical principles and standards. Social workers, counselors, and therapists benefit from regular education on core ethical principles and current issues. In this presentation, Diane Bigler, LCSW, will present general ethical concepts within the mental health field suitable for both newer practitioners and seasoned ones. Case studies will highlight the conflicting standards and considerations that exist within ethical dilemmas. Specific areas of ethical conflict will be addressed, such as confidentiality, dual relationships, self-disclosure, and termination. Learners will have the opportunity to think critically about methods of addressing ethical dilemmas. Ethical frameworks for resolving ethical dilemmas will be shared.
