When a patient experiences a neuromotor health condition during adulthood or childhood, their motor skills are often impacted not only by the primary health condition but also by experience-dependent cortical reorganization. Altered biomechanics, paucity of movement experiences, diminished or altered somatosensory information, decreased self-efficacy, and fear can all contribute to a cycle of amplified motor impairments through negative neuroplastic changes. This webinar will present clinicians with interventions that can positively impact neuroplasticity, enabling patients to build a functional cortical-body matrix and ultimately enhance their function. The framework presented will include: progression of somatosensory input for cortical mapping, maximizing motor skill through enhanced movement experiences, pain neuroscience education, therapeutic alliance, and orthotic prescription, design, and dosage with neuroplasticity in mind.
