Hyperlipidemia and ASCVD Risk Reduction

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Explain the role of lipids in the pathophysiology and progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
• Interpret lipid panel results and assess ASCVD risk using validated tools, including the Pooled Cohort Equation and Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) scoring.
• Implement evidence-based pharmacologic therapies for hyperlipidemia, including statins and non-statin agents, based on major clinical guidelines (ACC/AHA, AACE, ADA).
• Compare key differences in lipid management recommendations among the ACC/AHA, AACE, and ADA guidelines.
• Identify appropriate monitoring strategies for lipid-lowering therapy and manage statin-associated adverse effects, such as statin-induced myopathy.
• Counsel patients on lifestyle modifications to improve lipid profiles and reduce ASCVD risk, including diet, exercise, and adherence strategies.
• Evaluate treatment options in patients with statin intolerance or elevated residual risk despite statin therapy.
