Course overview

This 2-hour home study course provides pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with the knowledge and tools to support safe and effective use of over-the-counter (OTC) medications. The course reviews major OTC drug categories, labeling standards, proper dosing, and safety concerns related to misuse, drug interactions, and brand confusion. Learners will explore counseling strategies for vulnerable populations including pediatrics, older adults, and patients on multiple medications. The course also highlights technician and pharmacist roles in OTC product selection, patient education, and referral to a provider when needed. Through real-world case scenarios and best practice guidance, participants will develop skills to improve OTC medication safety across diverse pharmacy settings.
