Course overview
Liver Disease and the Older Patient is an not uncommon scenario seen in both office-based and inpatient clinical practice. In Dr. Appelbaum's second presentation, he discusses a comprehensive approach when encountering elevated liver biochemical tests in older patients and sheds light on a rapidly growing and potentially life-threatening condition known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). By utilizing a case-based approach, Dr. Appelbaum uses real life examples to engage program participants and explain the pathology, consequences and treatment of older patients with NAFLD and elevated liver biochemical tests. Educational Objectives: 1.Describe the evaluation of elevated liver biochemical tests in older patients 2.Explain the approach to evaluation of persons at risk for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) 3.Describe the pathology and progression of NAFLD Estimated time to complete this activity is 1 hour.
