Course overview
This CME activity serves as an introduction and overview discussing depression in the older population. Depression in older adults is often overlooked and/or undertreated and Dr. Youssef's expertise with the geriatric population expands on the risk factors, signs, symptoms, preventive measures and treatment options available for healthcare professionals working with the geriatric population. This CME activity also covers the Geriatric Assessment Scale as an effective screening tool and discusses several help and support resources available to the practicing healthcare professional. Educational Objectives: 1. Define Depression and list the elements that increase the risk of Depression in older people. 2. Recognize the warning signs, symptoms, and types of Depression in the elderly. 3. List the various treatments and preventative actions for Depression in the elderly. 4. Explain the value of the Geriatric Assessment Scale as a screening tool. 5. Find resources for assistance and support for Depression. Estimated time to complete this activity is 1 hour.
