Course overview

Medication errors are the source of harm for over a million patients in the United States annually, resulting in billions of dollars in added healthcare costs. Nurses are on the frontline of medication error prevention as they are often the last layer of protection before an error reaches the patient. It is essential that nurses are able to recognize different types of medication errors so that they are more easily recognized, understand the steps to take when an error has occurred, identify high-risk medications, especially those that require a double-check, outline safe medication administration techniques to reduce errors, and enhance their skills to prioritize patient safety. This course will provide nurses with critical knowledge and practical strategies to reduce medication errors and improve patient outcomes.
