Course overview

Dignity is viewed as a universal concept in health sciences and a feature necessary to promote health and alleviate suffering related to sickness and impending death. The experience of dignity is significantly meaningful in people's lives and may be a resource for personal health and well-being. Adopting evidence-based interventions supported by adequate theoretical backing can help enhance patient dignity in hospital and community settings. In this course, Dr. Richard B. Gunderman reviews past offenses against human dignity, outlines the costs of failure to respect human dignity, and explores ways to promote human dignity in healthcare.
