Cultural Competency and LGBTQ+ Inclusive Care

Course overview

Malibu CEU - Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #18091, for 4 contact hours. As the U.S. population becomes increasingly diverse, nurses must be equipped to provide culturally competent and inclusive care that respects all patients' backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. This course provides a comprehensive and evidence-based exploration of cultural competency, health equity, and LGBTQ+ inclusive care. It meets all major state CE requirements and draws on national standards such as CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care) guidelines. Nurses will explore historical disparities in care, reflect on their own biases, and learn to apply frameworks that improve cross-cultural communication and clinical decision-making. The course highlights vulnerable populations including LGBTQ+ individuals, older adults, children, persons with disabilities, veterans, people of color, and individuals with mental illness. Nurses will also gain tools to navigate difficult conversations, advocate effectively, and promote equity in diverse practice settings. This course is designed to challenge assumptions, deepen empathy, and provide actionable strategies that enhance care across cultures and identities.
