Differential Diagnosis: Disorders of the Eye

Course overview

This course introduces a symptom-based approach to eye disorders. It focuses on history-taking, physical exam techniques, and identifying red flags to support an accurate differential diagnosis. Learners will explore common emergent and nonemergent complaints such as traumatic injuries, red eye, and acute vision loss in detail. Conditions include retinal detachment, central retinal artery occlusion, chemical injury, acute angle-closure glaucoma, and globe rupture. This course supports the early recognition and prioritization of urgent referrals by evaluating clinical features and examination findings. Learners will review differential diagnosis and emergency care of eye conditions through visual acuity testing, confrontation visual field evaluation, pupillary assessment, and the Seidel test.
