Suicide Prevention, Assessment, and Treatment
Tracking # 20-1318602
Course overview
Malibu CEU Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #18091, for 5 contact hours. Suicide is a leading cause of preventable death in the United States and nurses are not immune. Both as clinicians and as human beings, nurses encounter suicide risk across diverse clinical settings and often within their own profession. This course prepares nurses to recognize suicide risk, perform evidence-based assessments, intervene safely, and advocate for systems of care that protect patients and providers alike. Topics include clinical screening tools, safety planning, trauma-informed communication, and ethical considerations for at-risk individuals, including fellow nurses experiencing chronic toxic stress or suicidal ideation. Special emphasis is placed on the development of confidential, standardized pathways to care for healthcare professionals, including appropriate referrals and follow-up protocols. By the end of this course, participants will be able to provide safe, legally sound, and compassionate care to individuals at risk for suicide while also recognizing their own limits, stressors, and professional duty to seek help when needed.
