Course overview
Breast cancer accounts for 15.5% of all new cases of cancer and is the leading cancer diagnosis in women. The survival rate continues to improve with a 5-year survival rate of 91.2%, meaning more patients are living with a history of cancer and the impacts of cancer related treatment. Rehabilitation plays an important role in the adjuvant setting due to the wide range of treatments and acute/long term side effects of these treatments. This workshop will examine the rehabilitation therapist's role throughout the breast cancer medical course including post-operatively and throughout adjuvant care. Case examples will be presented including protocols and standards of practice in the outpatient setting. Once complete the learner will be familiar with types of adjuvant care, common side effects as well as rehabilitation implications for each with appropriate rehabilitation treatment options.
