Course overview

Students will: 1. Learn common techniques associated with therapeutic scraping 2. Gain knowledge about the different types of scraping tools, including their materials (metal, bone, ceramic, plastic, stone, wood) 3. Study the history of Gua sha, Graston, and other scraping techniques, including their origins in traditional Chinese medicine and their evolution into modern therapeutic methods 4. Understand the current research supporting the effectiveness of therapeutic scraping techniques 5. Understand the importance of informed consent, contraindications, and proper application to ensure client safety during therapeutic scraping treatments 6. Develop client communication skills required for informed consent 7. Learn specific therapeutic scraping techniques for various body parts, such as the neck, shoulder, back, hips, and limbs, and understand how to customize treatment based on individual client needs. 8. Gain a deep understanding of the integumentary system's anatomy and its role in protecting the body and responding to therapeutic interventions. 9. Be able to identify absolute and local contraindications, and implement appropriate safety measures, such as disinfecting tools and performing proper screenings, to ensure the well-being of clients during treatment. 10. Understand the anatomy of the muscles involved in scapular, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand movement, and apply this knowledge to guide effective scraping techniques for therapeutic purposes.
