Course overview

Opioids are commonly prescribed for pain management in children. This course will review opioids as a drug class, including the new 2024 American Academy of Pediatrics opioid prescribing guidelines. This course will also review specific opioid medications and their uses, mechanisms of action, dosage guidelines, side effects, and warnings. Alternatives to opioids, monitoring needs, nursing considerations, and upcoming research are also discussed.
