Strengthening Pediatric Core and Posture (La Spina - Online)

Course overview

Manual therapy is an effective intervention for the pediatric population, and one that is often not found in con-tinuing education for this area of practice. In depth knowledge of spinal anatomy, joint mechanics, and areas of dysfunction can help mitigate impairments and functional limitations throughout the lifespan. All foundational movement starts with the core, and as children age posture deficits can have a large impact on progressing and maintaining gross motor skills. As well, impairments in posture, spinal alignment, and postural control can im-pact sacroiliac joint alignment and cause dysfunction. This course will provide an in-depth anatomy review of the spine and core, and address how the regions work in conjunction to maintain erect posture and allow postural control and stability during movement and age-appropriate activities. Participants will learn hands-on techniques for joint mobility and soft tissue release of all structures involved in both regions, as well as learn how faulty mechanics can lead to pain and loss of activity/ participation in later years. Clinicians will immediately be able to implement treatment strategies and pa-tient/caregiver education once they return to the clinic.
