Facilitation for Function: NDT Pediatric Handling for Babies and Beyond

Course overview

This course is designed for physical and occupational therapists and speech/language pathologists seeking assessment and treatment strategies for babies and young children with neuromuscular disabilities. Application of the NDTA Contemporary Practice Model will serve as a framework for clinical reasoning and treatment planning. Course material will address how alignment and weight shift control develop through typical development to enable occupational engagement for the infant. Use of handling and facilitation labs will address skill performance and participation based on identified client factor deficits in the baby and young child. The course will include case studies and patient demonstrations to reinforce didactic information. Extensive lab sessions and group problem-solving sessions will aid the learner in construction of the individual, task, and environment triad to enhance functional performance across community environments.
