Medications and Potential Food Interaction

Course overview

Prescription medications can interact with certain foods and dietary supplements, leading to harmful side effects. These interactions can change how well a medication works, resulting in an increased risk for morbidity, hospitalization, or prolonged treatment. Older adults are especially at risk due to their use of polypharmacy. If these medications do not work well together, they can cause more harm than good and lower a person's quality of life. This course will review how prescription drugs behave in the body, common medication-food interactions, and how to reduce the risk of adverse drug events.
