Are leisure skills beneficial to the overall health of our patients? Statistics show that 49% of those who utilize long-term care services in nursing homes are diagnosed with depression. Residents spend approximately 69% of the day inactive with their eyes closed. Occupational deprivation results in a decline in physical and mental health, as well as overall quality of life. This course will cover: The importance of teaching leisure activities in PT/OT/ATC How to identify the barriers to teaching leisure skills in everyday practice How to describe the steps necessary to create an Activity analysis and a list of motor movements needed for leisure skills Listing the process of using the Standard Celeration chart to track data and make clinical decisions Practice using the step-by-step process of teaching leisure skills using a case study: Playing Uno and an "overall approach" to OT Summarizing the components of motor fluency and its impact on generalization of leisure skills
