Dental Sleep Medicine focuses on the use of oral appliance therapy to treat sleep disordered breathing including snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OAT). Dr. James Stewart, a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, serves as the Dental Director of Dental Sleep Medicine of Michigan, P.L.C. He screens patients for sleep disorders at his Livonia, MI office. Dr. Stewart is passionate about treating sleep apnea and continues to study and pursue advanced level training in this field. In this course, Dr. Stewart will provide an overview of how he has incorporated treatment of sleep apnea patients in his dental practice. The presentation will take place in his office and will cover: Steps for routine patient examination and the diagnosis of sleep apnea Clinical practice protocols including documentation Working with medical sleep physician specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea Training staff for roles in sleep apnea care Case presentation including patient communication, consent, setting patient expectations Insurance and billing - working with dental sleep medicine software, medical coding and billing Dental Records, models, impression techniques, bite registration (George Gauge) Appliance Selection Delivery and follow up care - monitoring and adjusting sleep appliances after delivery Questions and answers Participants will gain general knowledge of their role in screening and management of patients from diagnosis to treatment, including oral appliance therapies. Gain a working understanding of the field of sleep dentistry Be able to screen patients effectively for sleep-related breathing disorders. Understand the important role that dentists hold in managing effective patient treatment.
