Use of Tobacco, Vaping, and Related Products in Adolescents
Tracking # 20-1323891
Course overview
Use of nicotine-related products is rising among adolescents, even as cigarette smoking declines. Products like e-cigarettes, hookah, and flavored tobacco contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and harmful to the developing brain. Adolescents may start using nicotine pouches or vapes due to stress, peer pressure, or social media. They often don't realize how easily addiction can form or how nicotine products impact their health. This course prepares healthcare providers, especially nurses, respiratory therapists, and social workers in acute care, to screen for nicotine use, offer cessation support, and educate adolescents about the risks. It shows how to use team-based care and recognize bias that may affect screening and treatment.
