Course Overview This course is designed for newly licensed or associate-level clinicians who are beginning their work with individuals who have committed sexual offenses. It offers 40 hours of training that meets Texas continuing education requirements and covers assessment, treatment, ethics, legal compliance, and cultural competency. Learning Objectives Understand the role of the clinician in sex offender treatment. Identify offense typologies and related risk factors. Conduct clinical assessments and risk evaluations. Develop treatment plans informed by assessment data. Apply evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relapse Prevention, and Motivational Interviewing. Maintain ethical and legal standards, including confidentiality and reporting. Collaborate effectively with legal and correctional systems. Demonstrate cultural humility and awareness of personal bias. Support client accountability and empathy while managing risk. Course Format Hybrid delivery model that includes pre-recorded video lessons, live discussion opportunities, case vignettes, written assignments, and a final reflection. Participants complete modules at their own pace. Required Materials All materials will be provided digitally. No textbooks are required. Supplemental readings will be suggested throughout the course. Course Schedule and Module Topics Module 1: Foundations of Sex Offender Treatment (4 hours) Module 2: Legal and Regulatory Frameworks (4 hours) Module 3: Understanding Sexual Offending Behavior (5 hours) Module 4: Assessment Tools and Clinical Evaluation (6 hours) Module 5: Treatment Planning and Case Conceptualization (5 hours) Module 6: Evidence-Based Interventions (6 hours) Module 7: Group Therapy and Supervision Dynamics (3 hours) Module 8: Ethics and Professional Boundaries (3 hours) Module 9: Interdisciplinary Collaboration (2 hours) Module 10: Cultural Competency, Victimology, and Self-Awareness (2 hours) Assignments and Evaluation Participants will complete written assignments, case analyses, and reflection prompts aligned with each module. A final self-assessment and course evaluation must be completed to receive a certificate of completion. CE Credit and Certificate of Completion Participants who complete all 10 modules and associated activities will receive a certificate for 40 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of ethics and 2 hours of cultural competency.
