Course overview

According to the VA, the percentage of veterans with PTSD varies by service era: between 11 to 20% who served in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom; 12 % in Gulf War (Desert Storm) and 15% to 30% in the Vietnam War. More alarming is that many believe these statistics may be underestimated as not every veteran seeks and or receives treatment for their PTSD-related symptomology. The goals of this course are to provide an overview of trauma in the military, address common misconceptions about PTSD that may be held by veterans and/or the public, discuss risk and protective factors in military and family populations and suggest prevention strategies and treatment approaches.
