Course overview

The population of older adults is increasing, and it's important for healthcare professionals to gain insight and understanding about common health issues confronting older adults. Age-related conditions, diseases, and syndromes will be explored, as will evidence-based research showing practical and innovative ways to make positive lifestyle choices to prepare for healthy old age and quality of life while preventing decline. Learners will recognize environmental and biological factors that contribute to age-related physical and mental health changes. Common conditions prompted by age-related cellular changes will be reviewed and correlated to challenges they may present that can lead to the development of other chronic conditions and diseases. Finally, preventative care and healthy lifestyle tips are discussed to identify ways to mitigate age-related illness and empower older adults to live healthy, meaningful lives.
