Course overview

In Part 1 Dr. Shuchin Shukla, addiction medicine physician and expert consultant, covered an overview of Opioid and Alcohol Use Disorders in the US, how addiction develops at the individual level, and medication treatment options, with special focus on the pharmacology and effectiveness of these medications. In this second session of the Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Training Initiative, Dr. Shukla will discuss how stigma affects both treatment access and treatment interest. He will review interventions that support the impact of MAT and other interventions that worsen outcomes. Lastly, he will discuss challenges related to MAT program implementation and potential solutions. He will close the session by addressing new and previously submitted questions from the audience, including a discussion of kratom and other novel psychoactive substances. This training will be held remotely via Zoom.
