This course is an overview of medications used in neonate populations and factors to consider when prescribing and administering medications in this population. Learners will explore the purpose of drugs in the neonatal period, common risk factors associated with medication use, medical implications on quality of life, and neonatal pharmacology management and research. This course will also discuss methods of action related to commonly prescribed medications for neonates and the nurses' role in neonatal pharmacology administration, caregiver education, and management. This course is intended for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with prescriptive authority.
