Course overview
This workshop will introduce attendees to the principles of reproductive justice, discuss how they intersect with social work ethics and examine how social workers can competently support abortion access. The target audience is any social worker who works with populations that are at a higher-than-average risk for unintended or unplanned pregnancy, which includes women *and girls* receiving psychiatric treatment, who have been part of the child welfare system, who are experiencing homeless, are poor or low income, or are immigrants. Upon completion of this workshop participants will: Have a better understanding of their own implicit biases around abortion. Understand the intersections of social work values and those of contemporary reproductive justice. Understand laws that impact their work with clients/patients seeking abortion care. Know best practices for pregnancy options counseling. Know how to recognize unethical and/or predatory agencies and organizations. Know how to engage in advocacy to support abortion access.
