Learn moreCourse overview
The prevalence of headache disorders among adults is about 50%. Though headache disorders are mostly episodic, are not contagious, and do not cause death, they result in significant social and economic burden, particularly in time missed from work or school. A lack of knowledge and awareness results in only 40% of those with migraine or tension-type headache being professionally diagnosed and therefore properly treated. Physical therapists have the potential to play an integral role in headache management as their skillset involves conservative care focused on activity and lifestyle modification, exercise, posture, and sleep. Treatment is typically dictated on a case-by-case basis once the type of headache has been established.
