Mental health professionals across the United States serve communities in every type of environment from snowy Northeastern winters to hurricane seasons in the Southeast, from the gray drizzle of the Pacific Northwest to the extreme summer heat of the Southwest. While client needs may remain steady, the context in which services are provided changes throughout the year. This course explores how seasonal and contextual factors including climate patterns, academic calendars, cultural and religious observances, and organizational or fiscal cycles influence both client needs and provider well-being. Participants will examine the impact of burnout, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and regional stressors on clinical care, while learning evidence-based, culturally humble self-care strategies that are adaptable across diverse contexts. Through case studies, ethical reflections, and planning tools, clinicians will develop a personalized, seasonally adaptable self-care plan aligned with the NASW Code of Ethics and Florida Administrative Code standards for professional competence. This self-paced, 3-hour course provides practical strategies to reduce burnout risk, enhance resilience, and support ethical, sustainable clinical practice all year long.
