Course overview
Synopsis: Every year 1 in 3 older Americans age 65 and older suffers a significant fall. Falls result in 3 million emergency department visits per year. In these same demographics falls are the leading cause of both fatal and non-fatal injuries. Falls can result in moderate to severe injuries from broken bones to head trauma. Falls may also cause psychological trauma. Fortunately, most falls are preventable. A solid multimodal fall prevention program which includes both the patients and the staff at assisted living facilities is key to preventing falls as well as significant injuries from falls.
