Course overview

This lecture will discuss the clinical recognition and diagnosis of cataracts presented to the primary care veterinarian in daily practice. Discussion will include the etiology, medical and surgical management, patient prognosis, possible secondary complications, and guidelines for referral for specialty care for cataracts. Surgical intervention within the referral setting will also be discussed. The focus of this lecture will be the proper clinical recognition of disease, followed by guidelines for clinical or surgical management versus referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist for further care.
