This 2-hour course introduces EMS providers to the recognition and management of hazardous materials incidents in accordance with national standards. Learners will review definitions and classifications of hazardous materials, certification levels, operational modes, and the use of the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) for hazard identification and protective action decisions. Emphasis is placed on identifying hazards through scene clues, placards, labels, and documents; applying safe protective measures such as evacuation and shelter-in-place; and integrating EMS response procedures to ensure safety and effective incident management.
